Looking for a creative appetizer for your next party? This crab bread and crab dip is sure to make you the talk of the party! Read through for instructions on how to shape the crab and for the crab dip recipe.

Crab Shaped Bread

Using your favourite bun recipe, make the dough. We used The Best Homemade Dinner Roll recipe from The Stay at Home Chef.

Let rise then shape into a crab. Be very careful not to make it too large because it grows quite a bit (as you can see in the photos).

For the crab shap, make one large circle and attach 6 small ovals to the sides for legs. For the pinchers, make an oval about twice the size of the legs and cut about an inch into the end to make the claw shape. Attach to the main body. Slice into the main body some “V” shapes (or whatever design you’d like). Make sure to slice fairly deep so the pattern keeps after the bread finishes rising and baking. Make 2 small balls for eyes and place at the top of the head. Let rise again before baking, as per the recipe you’ve selected.

Grandma was also teaching my daughter how to make her own creation <3 She decided to make a spider!

Bake as per the recipe you’re following and there you have it – an exploded bread version of whatever you created! {Crab + Spider}

Crab Dip Recipe

What you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 8 oz pkg cream cheese
  • 1 tsp prepared horseradish
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 lb imitation crab meat
  • Paprika

Combine sour cream, mayonnaise, cream cheese and seasonings in a bowl; mix well. Stir in cheese and crab meat. Chill for 2 hours.

To serve with bread, cut hole in centre of crab body. You could place the crab dip in the crab bread directly if it will all be eaten right away, however we placed it in a glass bowl that could be removed from the crab and refrigerated.

Enjoy your Crab Bread + Crab Dip!
