Are you a lavender fan? Naturally I was excited to harvest my home grown lavender for the first time this year, however I wasn’t totally sure what to do with it all! I absolutely love the smell of it, but until a couple days ago, had never actually used it in cooking.
Thanks to your suggestions on Instagram and some research of my own, I’ve realized there are SO MANY things you can use lavender for. We’ve tried a bunch of new recipes and I thought I’d share my favourites with you!

Lemon Lavender Poppy Seed Scones
This one is first because it is my favourite! I found this recipe from The Baker Mama on Pinterest and my cousin also recommended it. Boy was she right, they are soooo good!! I used fresh lavender instead of dried and I didn’t find the lavender flavour very strong. I think you could even omit the lavender and they’d be an amazing lemon poppyseed scones.

Iced Lavender London Fog
Can you believe I have never actually had a London Fog? Tell me I’m not the only one! This iced version was the first one I’ve tried and I LOVED it! It was super refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day.
I followed THIS recipe, however I used regular milk and organic sugar instead of coconut sugar. It was super tasty and goes perfect with the scones! I used a bit of the lavender syrup in my decaf hot coffee the next day and that was delicious too!
Although I don’t have a recipe for a hot Lavender London Fog, it’s on my list of things to try next time I’m buying a coffee out (which doesn’t happen often!).
I love lemonade, it’s probably my favourite drink. When suggested to try this I was a bit skeptical at first as I wasn’t sure how the lavender would make it taste. We adapted this lemonade recipe and it was pretty good! It was better then I thought, but to be honest, it wasn’t my favourite. It is a good lemonade recipe though!
The first time we made it, we used honey, but neither my daughter nor I really liked it. I think it was more to do with the honey we used though. It is local honey and it seems to taste quite a bit different from the prairie honey we’ve gotten used to the past several years. My sister in law who is in Alberta, makes the most delicious sweetest honey. Next time I get some I’ll try this recipe again, to see if it was just the type honey we used.
Anyways, we ended up substituting the honey for sugar (same amount) and it was much better! To get the lavender taste, just mix the sugar, about a tablespoon fresh lavender and 1-2 cups water, stir to dissolve sugar and let it sit for about half hour. Then strain the lavender out and continue making the lemonade as per the recipe. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Mix dried lavender with your favourite other dried flowers (I added a bunch of rose petals), put it in a bag and you’ve got yourself some potpourri, perfect for your panty drawer 🙂
I’m not a huge bath person, but my mini is. Having a few special salts to throw in makes a bath even more enticing for a 4 year old too! You know, for the times when you need to pull out all the tricks! I did try them out soaking my feet though and they were lovely. Every time I soak my feet I say I’m going to do it more often, I really need to listen to myself!
These salts were super simple to make and I did test them out when I soaked my dirty garden feet last night! I used the Calming Bath Soak recipe from 101 Easy Homemade Products for your Skin, Health and Home (affiliate link below), added a dash of pink Himalayan salt and substituted the chamomile for dried rose petals because that’s what I had.
This book is full of recipes that use lavender and lavender essential oil (you can even more your own oil if you’re super adventurous, I’m not!).
Last fall I made soap for Christmas gifts and I’ve really enjoyed using the lavender one myself! I sprinkled dried lavender on top and added a little sprig for garnish, just because!
It sure is nice to be able to use products with ingredients you can pronounce, especially things like soap that all all over your skin, all the time.
Haha, I just noticed my thumb, I was pitting cherries before I took this photo, it’s not blood or dirt, I swear!
Let’s not forget to just enjoy it as it comes! Dry it and use for garnish, decor, hang it, put it in a vase, add a sprig to a package, envelope, whatever your heart desires.
