It’s Week 6 of the One Room Challenge and this is where I officially come to terms with the fact that this room will not be finished in 2 weeks! Having said that, Poppa Sew Bright was in town and we made a lot of progress this week, keep reading to find out what it is.
FYI, ORC = One Room Challenge, you’ll see this acronym a lot over the next 8 weeks!

First, let’s talk about what the One Room Challenge is. Have you heard of it? It’s a biannual event that is held every spring and fall. Anyone with a blog, Instagram or TikTok account is welcome to join the fun. It goes over 8 weeks and each week you share an update on your room. It’s a fun way to connect with other like minded people and be able to encourage each other through all the ups and downs of renovating! I highly encourage you to check out all the other participants HERE.

PROJECT GOAL: Make this space bright, neutral and functional so we have storage and organization for jackets, shoes board games and kid stuff. We have a lot of morning light that comes through the windows and we want that light to transfer through the house.
Week 6 Renovation Progress
My parents were in town for Halloween and Poppa Sew Bright helped with the drywall work. We patched the ceiling where the old closet was, put new drywall on the wall section that used to be the closet and patched the holes in the wall that the electrician left. We also started mudding and Poppa Sew Bright did some work around the window to prep for being ready to paint. We got a lot done, but are very much in the thick of it and it feels like this is gonna be the way for months.
We’re still trying to source a contractor to help with the wall removal part, but we’re not having much luck. I have a list of some more names to call this week.
Back Entrance Renovation Costs
This is where I keep track of all the costs! Check back each week so how much this One Room Challenge is costing us!
- -$50, sold a coat rack and busy board on the buy and sell
- $75 Building Permit Application
- $5 Plumbing part
- $23 sheet of drywall
- $9 drywall filler
TOTAL COST: $62 (the cost is less than last week because of an additional item I sold from the room)
This cost will go up significantly once we get the electrical invoice!
